Becoming a mother is one of the greatest joys in life. Part of the human existence is to reproduce ourselves and that means that it’s natural for us to create little ones.
Unfortunately however, babies do not come with manuals and if you are a first time mom, you might find it to be the greatest learning experience of your life. The good news is that it’s something that happens every day and millions of women each year go through it and come out on the other side fantastic and with healthy and well-adjusted kids. ‘
These words may or may not be comforting to you as you think through all the things you’re going to have to go through as a new mom. So to help you work through some of the tough times and things that you’ll encounter, here are some tips.
Get Yourself a Mom Wardrobe
If you’re the type of woman that loves to wear makeup and fancy clothing every day, you should be prepared that this will change drastically when you are a new mom. New moms get very little sleep because babies are never on a consistent schedule. As a result you find yourself waking up in the middle of the night, early mornings, late evenings, and all through the day, answering the cries of your baby and doing everything you can to understand why the little darling is screaming.
Because you will be constantly on the go, you need to create a mother wardrobe for yourself. This means clothing that is easy to slip on and slip off. Today you can find dresses, tops, skirts and pants that do this easily. There are dresses and tops that also allow you to breastfeed without removing your clothing.
Another important area is your choice of shoes. Whether it is running around the house, carrying the baby or pushing it along in the stroller, you need shoes that are comfortable. With this in mind, it’s important to invest in some women’s comfort shoes. You should buy a pair of shoes that you can comfortably wear around the house and others that you can wear out no matter what the weather is like outside. The focus should be on comfort first, then style. You might not like this idea in the beginning but after a short while of walking in them, you’ll understand why it’s so important.
Don’t Be Afraid to Ask for Help
Many women have this vision of being a super mom, and always being on top of things regarding their babies. The reality is that taking good care of a baby these days is often more than one person job. This means that you always need to be prepared to ask for help.
There will be times when you are simply exhausted and can barely see straight, while your child is hungry and crying or needing to be changed. These are times when you need to call in reinforcements. This might be your significant other, your mom or another relative, or help that you have hired. The key is to bring them in when you need them and not be too proud to ask. This might be difficult in the beginning because you want to do it all yourself, but once you see the benefits of bringing in someone to help oh, you will call on that help as often as possible.
The final bit of good advice is to be patient with yourself. This is a brand new experience that is unpredictable and at times scary. You will get better at doing everything for your baby overtime, so be patient with yourself and everything will work out fantastically.
